DDD shows 3D displays and applications on Silicon Graphics™ Onyx4™ UltimateVision™ system
Santa Monica, California (July 29, 2003) – DDD Group plc (AIM: DDD) today announced the debut of its TriDef™ Visualizer™ software with the Silicon Graphics Onyx4™ UltimateVision™ server. The availability of TriDef Visualizer for the SGI IRIX operating system follows the announcement earlier this month of the alliance whereby both companies will work together to deliver 3D “glasses-free” display solutions to SGI end users and independent software vendors.
The Onyx4 UltimateVision server is the latest highly advanced visual computing system from Silicon Graphics, based on the company’s fourth-generation scalable high performance architecture. Capable of managing between 2 and 32 graphics processors, Onyx4™ is intended to power the next generation of immersive visualization environments, making it ideally suited to the task of driving the latest 3D glasses-free displays and applications.
DDD’s TriDef™ Visualizer software simplifies the integration of a range of 3D LCD and plasma displays with existing SGI™ OpenGL™ software applications without the software developer having to change their application code. Taking full advantage of the powerful Onyx4 architecture, TriDef Visualizer will be demonstrated in conjunction with applications including amira™ from TGS.
“We are very pleased with the results of our collaboration with SGI,” said Robert Mannino, Vice President of Professional Visualization Solutions for DDD. “Onyx4 represents an ideal platform for TriDef Visualizer. The initial reaction from prospective end users and software developers has been very positive. Collectively, we are establishing a new benchmark for visualization with glasses-free 3D displays”
“We see definite growth potential for 3D solutions in the marketplace and are pleased to partner with DDD to offer the best-in-class products to our customers,” said Anneke Dempsey, Senior Director, Global Alliances, and SGI. “The DDD TriDef Visualizer software brings new capabilities to our software developers and promises the most innovative and amazing solutions for the future.”
TriDef Visualizer is being demonstrated on the Onyx4 UltimateVision system at the Silicon Graphics briefing suite at the Hilton Hotel/San Diego Gaslamp Quarter during the SIGGRAPH show on Tuesday from 5 – 7P in the Pacific Room.
